2P START! is Where I’m At

September 29th, 2007

As if you hadn’t noticed, updates are virtually non-existent here now. I’ve put most of my efforts into 2P START!, the webcomic collaboration I have going with Ray. Turns out we work really well together and have a lot of fun making comics. Best of all, people seem to like our comics for the most part. I really had hoped to bring something unique to Wii fans out there, and blogging on information that could be found more readily on other sites just isn’t that unique. It’s not a total loss as I learned a lot over the last year and met Ray through this site, but I feel it’s time to officially close this chapter in PlayWii’s short history. What’s next? Not sure really. I have an idea for this site that I do think would be unique, but I’m not sure if I can put in the time. We’ll just have to see where we go from here!

Worms Coming to Wii

August 30th, 2007

THQ is bringing the Worms franchise to the Wii next year with full 4-player online support in the title Worms: A Space Oddity. Get ready to blow each other to smithereens in what is hopefully another fun, hilarious rendition of this turn-based strategy game.

VC Mondays: An RPG???

August 27th, 2007

VCThat’s right folds, we’ve got ourselves another RPG on the Nintendo’s Virtual Console. If I hadn’t already beaten Breath of Fire II, I’d definitely download this game as it’s an excellent game in an excellent series. All three titles this week are decent games, so check out the reviews below:

Breath of Fire II (SNES - 800 Wii Points)
Ghouls ‘n Ghosts (Sega Genesis - 800 Wii Points)
Super C (NES - 500 Wii points)

VC Mondays: A 5-Star Week

August 20th, 2007

vcThe Virtual Console Archive gives all three VC releases this week a 5-star rating. I guess not knowing which great game to download is a good problem to have, right? Super Metroid and a Zelda knock-off in the same week? I guess this makes up for the lack of Wii retail releases this week. Check the links below for reviews on all three classics.

Super Metroid - 800 points - SNES
Shinobi III - 800 points - Genesis
Neutopia - 600 points - TG16

Non-VC Titles Coming in 2008

August 20th, 2007

From IGN: “Nintendo will begin offering new games for download at the beginning of 2008. Initially, the downloadable titles will focus on puzzle and edutainment genres. Eventually, Nintendo will expand to action games and larger productions. Pricing for downloadable titles is expected to be below 1,000 yen (approximately $8).”

VC Mondays: Metroid Now Available

August 13th, 2007

VCThe month of Metroid is well underway with the Virtual Console release of the original classic, Metroid for NES. I think I’ll go ahead and download this one as it’s been many years since I’ve played it…or maybe I should wait until next week when Super Metroid comes out…hmm… There are a couple other games available too, just follow these links:

Metroid (NES - 500 Wii Points)
Shining in the Darkness (Sega Genesis - 800 Wii Points)
Cratermaze (TurboGrafx16 - 600 Wii Points)

Metroid Prime: Corruption Preview Channel

August 10th, 2007

Everyone should have gotten a little message from Nintendo this morning letting you know that you could download the Metroid Prime: Corruption preview channel in the Wii Ware section of the Shop Channel. While this can be seen as just some free advertising for Nintendo (it’s just a collection of preview videos), it’s a welcome sign that one day we might get Wii demos. Another aspect of Metroid Month is that both Metroid for the NES and Super Metroid for the SNES will be available to download this month on the Virtual Console. Now that’s the way to get people excited about your new releases! I’m thinking Nintendo wants to do everything they can to avoid a repeat of the poor sales for Metroid Prime 2.

Wii Passes 10M Units Sold Worldwide

August 7th, 2007

Wii

According to VG Chartz, the Wii console has surpassed the 10 million units sold mark in less than 9 months and is primed to takeover the Xbox 360 shortly. The Wii currently stands at 10.03 million sold to the Xbox 360’s 10.32 million. With the Xbox 360 having a year’s headstart, the Wii wasn’t expected to become number 1 so quickly. The main reason the Wii has caught up in such a short timeframe is the fact that Microsoft can’t seem to give Japanese gamers what they want as less than half a million units have been sold there compared to over 3 million Wii’s.
